I feel fortunate for finding your article. You have written your views in an insightful and engaging manner. I've read other articles on this topic that were dull and confusing. Yours is easier to understand.

Say a firm "no" and offer her something appropriate for her to chew on, so always try to have a chew toy handy. When she starts chewing on the toys tell her in a nice voice that she's being a good girl. She should catch on pretty quick that chewing on hands warrants a 'bad' noise and chewing on a toy warrants praise. Stay patient. Good luck!

Probably just playing. They are just pups. Just a teething stage. Get them some big toys and put the toy in h her mouth and she should learn to stop quicker. That or if not then he'll stop on its own. It's just perfectly normal.

Min pins are assertive, that's for sure. They are also lovely dogs.

Your pup seems to have some idea she's your pack leader.

You should be able to curb her behavior by taking the role of dominance in her life. One way (and the best one, i've found) to curb the biting is to do what her mother or another pack leader dog would do if they had enough--

Say NO and CALMLY put the dog on the floor on her side. Hold her there (one hand on her neck and one on her torso) gently but firmly, so she can't get up. Don't talk to her at all. Once she is calm make her stay there for a minute or so, and then let her up.

Repeat every time she bites. She will get the message, and it won't hurt her a bit.

You might do a yahoo search for Training a Miniature Pincher or Training a Puppy. You will get a lot of good, free information.

Miniature Pinchers as Pets would also be another good search.

enjoy your dog.

I've tried a few things when my pup bites me, these two seemed to work the best for me.

Grabbing his bottom jaw was effective for a while, basically when your puppy is nipping and playing, he's in control of it. But if you say "No bite!" and just hold his bottom jaw, he's no longer in control and it's no longer enjoyable for him.

I've also pinched his ear when he bit. Not too hard, just enough to make him annoyed and pull away from me, which released his bite.

Your pup will eventually grow out of this, so don't expect training to stop it completely. It's an age thing, just make sure she knows that it's not acceptable.

Geez...i have answered the very same question 3 times today already in this forum.

she is just play-biting, that's how they play with their littermates. you have bring her to training class after she has her first shot (some puppy kindergartens allow puppies to join after first shot). get some books or go online and read about bite-inhibition.

good luck!

It's illegal for a breeder to release a pup to it's new home before it's at least 8 weeks old, so what you need to do is return the pup to the unreputable backyard greeder and then turn them into your local animal control department.

ebay is a good source and ignore all the nasties on here, if your dog enjoys wearing outfits, there's no reason you shouldn't dress him/her up.

I have 5 dogs, they all have matching harnesses in a pattern someone makes for me, jester collars for christmas and halloween, and the 2 girls have cute dresses. They all have warm sweaters and jackets for when it is cold outside.
I am talking prey dogs, not chihuahuas - nobody's business but yours and your dogs if you want them to look cute.
If it makes you happy and the dogs don't mind (some do, including 2 of my boys, so all they get are fancy jester collars with bells), it is a great way to have fun for you and the dog.
